Trailer Buzz: ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle,’ ‘Proud Mary,’ ‘Jigsaw’

Spies, assassins and serial killers are the focus of today’s trailer roundup, as lethal characters continue to draw audiences looking for thrills on the big screen. Check out the sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service, the next installment of the Saw franchise and the latest action movie with a kick-ass heroine below.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

When it comes out: September 22

Who is in it: Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Jeff Bridges, Channing Tatum, Halle Berry, Mark Strong, Pedro Pascal, Vinnie Jones, Sophie Cookson, Michael Gambon, Elton John

What it is about: The second Kingsman movie brings back Egerton, Firth and Strong as they head to America and team up with whisky-drinking, lasso-armed Statesman spies (Bridges, Tatum, Pascal) to go up against a villainous mastermind played by Moore. And Elton John plays “Elton John.”

How is the trailer: If you like the first movie, this looks just as fun and cartoonishly violent — the lasso stuff looks especially ridiculous. And all the cast additions appear to be having a fun time. What more could we ask for?

Proud Mary

When it comes out: January 12, 2018

Who is in it: Taraji P. Henson, Danny Glover, Neal McDonough, Xander Berkeley

What it is about: Henson plays an assassin who maternally befriends a young boy. London Has Fallen director Babak Najafi is at the helm.

How is the trailer: Well, Henson does look pretty awesome while kicking butt, set to the obvious song choice for a movie titled Proud Mary. But the synopsis doesn’t match what we see in this first spot. The trailer is all action, no set-up of the story.

When it comes out: October 27

Who is in it: Tobin Bell, Mandela Van Peebles, Laura Vandervoort, Brittany Allen, Callum Keith Rennie

What it is about: The eighth installment of the Saw series picks up a decade later with a resurrected Jigsaw (Bell) and another bunch of victims of his intricate murders.

How is the trailer: It’s fine for a trailer meant to remind Saw fans that a new movie is on the way. Jigsaw’s kills are also teased very well without giving away the goods, though a bloodier Red Band version might be a bigger draw for the horror crowd.
