Rumor Patrol: ‘Terminator 6’ Gets Schwarzenegger and Cameron Talking

Terminator: Genisys

This year, Arnold Schwarzenegger (above in Terminator: Genisys) has expressed his enthusiasm about appearing in another installment of the Terminator series multiple times, which is completely understandable. The original movie, directed by James Cameron, allowed him to portray a very strong and dynamic character who became an iconic action figure on the big screen.

Earlier this week, Schwarzenegger again talked about his interest in the franchise. As translated by The Playlist from Kleine Zeitung, a German-language site, Schwarzenegger said: “In March next year, I am shooting Terminator 6, James Cameron and David Ellison are back on board.”

To put that in context, Schwarzenegger also said that he will be shooting Triplets, a sequel to his 1988 comedy Twins, this fall, and that he will follow Terminator 6 by appearing in another Conan movie. We’re still waiting for confirmation on Triplets and the next Conan. But what makes the actor’s latest mention of Terminator 6 newsworthy is that James Cameron has also been talking about the series this week.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Cameron told The Arnold Fans: “It has flashed through my mind that there has to have been a prototype … and that presumably was a real person at some point. Now, the question is, did that person have some sort of meaning to Skynet on WHY they chose [the one portrayed by Schwarzenegger]?”

“Or was it like a whole rack of Terminators,” Cameron says, “and the one that happened to be the Arnold model just happened to be closest to the door going out to the time displacement center and all the others looked different? I’ve asked myself these questions but it’s never been resolved…so stay tuned! We’re talking pretty seriously now about doing some new Terminator films or possibly a trilogy and you’ll just have to see what surfaces in those.”

While we’re waiting, we can see Arnold Schwarzenegger in James Cameron’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day in 3D when it opens in theaters on August 25.
