News Briefs: Who Will Direct ‘The Flash’? Maybe Robert Zemeckis


The Flash: Robert Zemeckis (Allied, above) is being touted as the front-runner to direct superhero movie The Flash, with other candidates reportedly including Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman: The Golden Circle) and Sam Raimi (Spider-Man). Writer-director Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) left the project last October; writer Joby Harold (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) came on board in January. Ezra Miller is still set to star alongside Kiersey Clemons and Billy Crudup. [The Wrap/THR]

Academy Awards: Late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, who hosted the Academy Awards broadcast earlier this year to great acclaim, will return for the 90th edition of the show. It’s set to air on Sunday, March 4, 2018. Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd will also return as producers. [The Academy]

War Dogs

Uncut Gems: Jonah Hill (War Dogs, above) will star in Uncut Gems, to be directed by Josh and Benny Safdie (Good Time; see below). It’s described as a thriller that takes place “in the unscrupulous, fast-paced world of the New York City Diamond District.” Martin Scorsese will serve as one of the executive producers. [Deadline]

Good Time Trailer: Shortly ahead of its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, the first trailer for Good Time has debuted. Directed by Josh and Benny Safdie, the crime thriller follows Robert Pattinson on a single night in New York City as he desperately tries to get his brother out of jail.
