News Briefs: When ‘Avatar 2’ Will Begin Shooting, According to Sigourney Weaver


Avatar 2: Sigourney Weaver says that the long-awaited sequel to Avatar (above) will finally begin shooting this fall. The actress remains enthusiastic about the four sequels that are planned: “I’m telling you, these scripts are so amazing, I’m not worried about [disappointing fans] at all. Am I worried about how we’re going to bring them to life? Yes, because they’re so ambitious. … They’re well worth waiting for.” Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana are expected to join Weaver in reprising their roles from the 2009 original. [THR]

Freakshift: Armie Hammer will star opposite Alicia Vikander in Freakshift. It’s described as an action-thriller “about a band of misfit cops who hunt down and kill nocturnal underground monsters.” Ben Wheatley cowrote the original script with Amy Jump and will direct; he and Hammer just worked together on Free Fire (above), which releases on April 21.
