The Batman: Matt Reeves (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, above) is now in early talks to direct The Batman. Ben Affleck recently decided to step down as director, though he’s expected to remain as star and producer. Reeves was immediately touted to replace him, though other candidates were still under consideration until recently. [Deadline/Variety]

Thandie Newton

Han Solo: Thandie Newton (above), recently acclaimed for HBO’s Westworld, is in talks to join the untitled Han Solo movie. No hints have been offered about what role she might play. Just a few days ago, we heard that Phoebe Waller-Bridge (TV’s Fleabag) might give a CGI-driven performance in the Star Wars spin-off project, which will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Taika Waititi

Bubbles: Taika Waititi (above), who is directing Thor: Ragnarok, will next direct Bubbles, a stop-motion animated project about the late Michael Jackson’s pet chimpanzee, known as Bubbles. Mark Gustafson, animation director for Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox, will codirect. Isaac Adamson wrote the screenplay, Waititi says: “It’s about a chimpanzee’s fascinating journey through the complex jungle of human life.” [ScreenDaily]

Goon: Last of the Enforcers

Goon: Last of the Enforcers Trailer: Hockey player Seann William Scott faces the unhappy prospects of retirement in a new, full trailer for Goon: Last of the Enforcers. The sequel also stars Alison Pill, Wyatt Russell and Liev Schreiber; Jay Baruchel directed. It opens in Canada on March 17 and is expected in the U.S. later this year. [Movieclips]
