News Briefs: Simon Pegg and Nick Frost Are Writing Their Next Project


Simon Pegg/Nick Frost: “Simon and I are working on something,” says Nick Frost, referring to his friend and creative partner Simon Pegg. “We’re trying to do something a bit special at the moment.” The two met in the 1990s and quickly became friends; they began working together on the British TV show Spaced, which was directed by Edgar Wright. Subsequently, the trio made Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End. Pegg and Frost also wrote and starred in the alien comedy Paul (above) and Frost says he’d like to do something else “in the sci-fi world.” [Inverse]

The Predator: Director Shane Black shared a new photo from The Predator, alluding to the idea that one or more of the cast members will fall victim to the alien hunter. Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, Sterling K. Brown, Yvonne Strahovski, Jacob Tremblay and Keegan-Michael Key star; the movie is scheduled for release on February 9, 2018. [Twitter]

Big Fish

Dumbo: Danny DeVito is in negotiations to join the cast of Disney’s live-action version of Dumbo. Tim Burton will direct; he and DeVito previously teamed on Big Fish (above), Mars Attacks! and Batman Returns. If things work out, DeVito will play the owner of a small circus that is acquired by a villainous owner of a big circus. Eva Green is also in talks, as we heard recently. [Deadline]

Buster's Mal Heart

Buster’s Mal Heart Trailer. Rami Malek (TV’s Mr. Robot) stars in Buster’s Mal Heart as a man on the run who breaks into empty vacation homes to hide from the authorities. The first trailer suggests that it’s a very weird, mysterious drama. It’s due in theaters on April 28. [Movieclips]
