News Briefs: Jeremy Renner to Star As Western Hero Doc Holliday


Doc Holliday: Jeremy Renner (Arrival, above) will portray Doc Holliday in a new biographical movie about the Western hero. It will be based on two novels by Mary Doria Russell, Doc and Epitaph: A Novel of the O.K. Corral that tracked his life from his early career as a dentist in Atlanta to his fame as a gunfighter alongside Wyatt Earp at the O.K. Corral. [THR]


Zoe: Christina Aguilera (Burlesque, above), Theo James, Rashida Jones and Miranda Otto have joined the sci-fi romance Zoe. Ewan McGregor and Léa Seydoux are already set to star; Drake Doremus will direct. The movie follows “colleagues at a revolutionary research lab who design technology to improve and perfect romantic relationships.” Production will get underway next week. [Variety]

Ben Affleck / Casey Affleck

Triple Frontier: Last month, Channing Tatum, Tom Hardy and distributor Paramount dropped out of Triple Frontier, a thriller set in South America. Director J.C. Chandor and costar Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) are still attached, however, and a new report suggests that Netflix may pick up the project and offer the starring roles to Ben Affleck and Casey Affleck.
