News Briefs: Don Cheadle to Star As Wall Street’s First Black Millionaire

Prince of Darkness: Don Cheadle will star in and produce a big-screen adaptation of Shane White’s book Prince of Darkness: The Untold Story of Jeremiah G. Hamilton, Wall Street’s First Black Millionaire. Originally from Haiti, Hamilton moved to New York in the 19th century and became a wildly successful, taboo-breaking broker and land agent. Steven Baigelman, who wrote Cheadle’s biographical drama Miles Ahead (above), will write the script. [THR]


Hillbilly Elegy: Ron Howard (above) will direct a memoir by a man who grew up among working-class “hillbillies” in Ohio and Kentucky. J.D. Vance’s popular book Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis focuses on “the everyday struggles of America’s white underclass.” [Deadline]


Unforgettable Clip: Rosario Dawson portrays a new wife who is threatened by her husband’s ex-wife (Katherine Heigl) in Unforgettable.
