Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Courage: Matthew Vaughn, whose credits include Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kingsman: The Golden Circle (above), is said to be “circling to produce and possibly direct” Courage. It’s described as an action/sci-fi movie, based on an original script by Karl Gajdusek (Oblivion), and has drawn comparisons to Inception and Edge of Tomorrow. [Deadline]

Super Fly

Super Fly: First released in 1972 during the brief, so-called “Blaxploitation” era, crime drama Super Fly starred Ron O’Neal (above) as a cocaine dealer who wants to make one more big deal and then retire. Now a new version is on its way, with hopes that it will lead to a series of films. Alex Tse (Watchmen) is writing the screenplay; Joel Silver is producing. [Variety]

Paranormal Activity 4

Detective Pikachu: Kathryn Newton, who starred in Paranormal Activity 4 (above) and more recently appeared in HBO’s Big Little Lies and AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire, is now in negotiations for the female lead in Detective Pikachu, opposite Justice Smith (Netflix’s The Get Down). If things work out, Newton will play a “sassy journalist” who heads out to solve a mystery with a self-made investigator (Smith) in the live-action Pokemon adaptation. [THR]

Rooney Mara

Mary Magdalene Trailer: Rooney Mara (above) stars in the first trailer for Mary Magdalene. It’s inspired by the Biblical story of the titular character, who was a loyal follower of Jesus Christ (Joaquin Phoenix) in the first century. Chiwetel Ejiofor also stars; Garth Davis (Lion) directed. It’s set for release on March 30, 2018. [Movieclips]
