Movie News: Jared Leto to Star in ‘Bloodshot’; ‘Wonder Woman 2’ Nabs Release Date

Suicide Squad

Bloodshot: Jared Leto (Suicide Squad, above) is in talks to star in Bloodshot, based on a comic book series. First published in 1992 by Valiant Comics, the stories revolved around a former mob killer who is controlled against his will by nanotechnology that’s been injected into his bloodstream, giving him superhuman strength and healing abilities. Dave Wilson will direct; Sony hopes the movie will help launch a new franchise. [Deadline]

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman 2: This past weekend at Comic-Con, Wonder Woman 2 was listed as a forthcoming project from Warner Bros. Now the studio has scheduled the sequel for release on December 13, 2019. Gal Gadot is expected to reprise her starring role; director Patty Jenkins has not yet been confirmed to return, but she has been working on story ideas with producer Geoff Johns. [Variety]

John Wick

Ballerina: Recently we heard that a third installment in the John Wick action-movie series, as well as a spin-off TV series titled The Continental, were both in development. Now Lionsgate has acquired a script titled Ballerina by newcomer Shay Hatten that may be developed into a John Wick spin-off intended for the big screen. Ballerina follows a young female assassin who seeks vengeance against those responsible for the death of her family. [THR]
