Movie News: James Mangold to Direct Ford vs. Ferrari Drama

Ford vs. Ferrari: James Mangold (Logan, above with Hugh Jackman) will direct a real-life drama set in the world of championship auto racing. It follows American designers and engineers who were tasked by Henry Ford II to build a new automobile that could defeat the cars built by “perennially dominant” Ferrari at a 24-hour endurance race in 1966. Mangold is working with writers Jez and John-Henry Butterworth (Edge of Tomorrow) on the project and may be interested in casting Christian Bale and/or Matt Damon in leading roles. [Variety]

Conan the Barbarian

Conan: First published in 1932, Robert E. Howard’s fantasy stories about a mighty wandering hero named Conan eventually inspired three movies (most recently 2011’s Conan the Barbarian, above), comic books, video games and three television shows. Now a fourth small-screen series is under development at Amazon. Created and written by Ryan Condal (Hercules), the plan is to draw directly from Howard’s stories. [Deadline]

Angel of Mine: Noomi Rapace (Netflix’s Bright, above) will star in Angel of Mine. The psychological drama is based on a 2008 French-language film; Academy Award-nominated Luke Davies (Lion) and David Regal wrote the screenplay. Kim Farrant is attached to direct. [Deadline]
