Movie News: Hugh Jackman to Portray Controversial Politician; Matt Reeves Talks “Noir-Driven” ‘Batman’ Movie


The Frontrunner: Hugh Jackman (Logan, above) will star as Senator Gary Hart in The Frontrunner. Jason Reitman (Men, Women & Children) will direct. Political journalist Matt Bai, former press secretary Jay Carson and Reitman wrote the script, which is based on Bai’s book All the Truth Is Out. It tells the true story of the politician who was considered the front-runner in the campaign for the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination before an extramarital affair was revealed. [THR]

War for the Planet of the Apes

The Batman: Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes, above), who was tapped to replace Ben Affleck as director of The Batman back in February, now says: “There’s a chance to do an almost noir-driven, detective version of Batman that is point-of-view driven in a very, very powerful way, that will hopefully connect you to what’s going on inside of his head and inside of his heart.” [New Trailer Buzz via Batman News]

Hellboy II: The Golden Army

Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen: Writer, artist and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola previously claimed that his character would star in “an R-rated reboot” and now director Neil Marshall (HBO’s Game of Thrones) has confirmed those plans: “We’ve been granted permission to do it R rated, which for me is just like taking the cuffs off. … When you go back the original material, it is kind of bloody, so I’m going to embrace that.” Marshall also says computer graphics will be used only to “enhance or expand upon the world.” [Post Mortem via Bloody Disgusting]

Good Time

Good Time Trailer: Robert Pattinson stars in a new trailer for Good Time. He plays a bank robber who seeks to free his brother from a penal facility that’s fraught with danger. Jennifer Jason Leigh and Barkhad Abdi also star; look for the crime drama in theaters on August 11. [Movieclips]
