Indie Movie Guide: The All-Female Directed ‘XX’

It’s a fact that mainstream Hollywood has a serious lack of female directors making movies today, and one genre in particular that rarely sees a woman at the helm is horror. This changes with the horror anthology XX, which has four short films by four different female directors including Karyn Kusama (Aeon Flux, Jennifer’s Body), all with female leads. One of those leads may look familiar: Melanie Lynskey, whom you may recognize from TV shows like Two and a Half Men and movies like Coyote Ugly and The Perks of Being a Wallflower, stars in Annie Clark’s short The Birthday Party. Also this week, death comes in more humorous ways in Dying Laughing, a documentary about the trials and tribulations of stand-up comedy with commentary from Jerry Seinfeld, Sarah Silverman, Kevin Hart and others.

Both films are in limited theaters and on demand. Find out more in this week’s episode!
