Festival season incorporates innovative tech to reach fans everywhere

Fans flock to music festivals in the summer season to dress up and enjoy their favorite music. Technology has become a mainstay at these concerts to embellish attendees’ experiences with ever-evolving offerings. Cisco has found that mobile data traffic will grow rapidly in the next five years, so how are festivals like EDC, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza making their festivals more tech-conscious?

This year’s Coachella festival incorporated virtual reality for fans to watch their favorite music acts remotely, strapping on a headset and utilizing the Coachella app to see acts from the concert.

Umbel reports that Bonnaroo also launched a Spotify app that helps attendees choose the artists to watch based on their music choices and data, giving them the perfect lineup of their liking during the festival.

EDC, or the Electric Daisy Carnival, is another renowned festival for music fans. Music Festival News writes that for those who can’t attend the event in Las Vegas, EDC has partnered with Red Bull to live stream the entire event. The company plans on live streaming other music fests like Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits Music Festival.

Cisco’s 2017 Visual Networking Index Forecast predicts the biggest internet trends from 2016 to 2021. This forecast helps us see just how much internet and mobility traffic will grow in the coming years. With so many fans recording video, using festival apps, and even watching concerts from home—it’s easy to see why traffic data is so high.

For example, the average internet user will generate 61GB of traffic per month in 2021, which is a 155% increase from 2016. Luckily, average mobile speed will also grow three-fold from 2016 to 2021; 6.8 Mbps to 20 Mbps.

It is this mobile speed that Cisco also wants music fans to enjoy while they’re at concerts and festivals. The company has partnered with Live Nation to bring Cisco Connected Stadium WiFi in 30 outdoor amphitheaters by the summer of 2017—just in time for festival season.

If you find yourself in one of these amphitheaters soon, enjoy the Cisco connectivity that will complement your live concert experience.
