Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey star in The Dark Tower, the first big-screen adventure inspired by Stephen King’s epic series of novels. The books have drawn millions of devoted fans, who may get a chuckle when they see what time the first screenings begin tonight.
That’s because those premiere screenings are set to start at 19:19 (i.e. 7:19 local time) today, which is significant because the number 19 is a very big part of the books. As one fansite points out: “19 is a mystical number that appears regularly throughout the works of Stephen King.” Another site lists a slew of people in the novels whose names total 19 characters, with similar listings for places, organizations, dates, times and other things. King’s official site lists more connections submitted by fans.
Moviegoers will want to see The Dark Tower for themselves to decide if the filmmakers have caught the spirit of King’s series. While you’re choosing where — and when — to see it, keep in mind that theaters like Alamo and Cinemark have special giveaways for moviegoers.
