Critics and audiences alike loved Zootopia, the story about a little rabbit who planned to make it in the big city as a cop no matter what, and the movie’s Oscar win certainly helped prove the movie’s billion-dollar worldwide box office and 98% Fresh rating were right. As a new grad of the Zootopia Police Academy assigned to menial meter-maid duty, Officer Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) gets only ridicule and prejudice from everyone from her huge, rowdy coworkers (rhinos, wolves and tigers among them) to the general public. That is, until she volunteers to help find a missing person (er, otter) — and uncovers a mysterious conspiracy involving the missing animals that helped to pit “predator” animals against non-threatening species. The movie wraps up serious issues of non-inclusion, bullying and racism/sexism in a sophisticated yet kid-friendly story, with Disney’s incomparable animation and terrific voice work by Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy and Jason Bateman as her sidekick fox buddy, Nick Wilde.
